Early Life
He was born and brought up in Virar, Maharashtra, India. We belong to Nala, a neighbourhood within the city of Virar. He started playing cricket at the age of five, but it was not until he turned 15 that he seriously considered pursuing it professionally. In order to fulfil his dream of playing in the Indian team, he regularly travelled nearly 80 km each way by train from Virar to Churchgate commonly near the iconic Wankhede Stadium to play cricket. He nearly travelled six hours with a heavy kit bag daily to play matches in Mumbai. At the age of 6, in July 2014, he practised at Vengsarkar Cricket Academy, which is run by former Cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar.

He started his schooling at St. Joseph school when Virar. After that, he went to Don Bosco High School in Matunga. Then, he changed his school to Rizvi Springfield High School in Bandra and later switched to IES VN Sule Guruji English Medium School in Dadar. He was juggling with his studies in order to improve his sporting skills.

He comes from a supportive family in Maharashtra, India. His father’s name is Yogesh Mhatre, and he is a banker by profession. Yogesh even was about to leave his job as a banker in 2024 to give more time to his son in cricketing career. His mother’s name is Jagruti Mhatre.
His maternal grandfather, Laxmikant Naik, played a great role in his cricketing journey, he took him from Virar to cricket grounds in Bandra and Matunga practice matches. Laxmikant said in an interview that, we saw him playing excellent shots, so he thought whether he became big or not, it’s a part of destiny. It is our responsibility to push him.

Career
When he started playing cricket, he would have to wake up at 4:15 AM to catch a 5:00 AM train from Virar to Churchgate. He did daily travel of about 80km one way in order to access better training facilities near the iconic Wankhede Stadium. He was not picked among the top 30 NCA players in 2024, due to his poor performance in inter-camp matches. At that point, he got depressed, but he worked on his techniques.
He did very hard work during that period and travelled to different parts of Mumbai to play matches and practice sessions. Then, he got a call for a local tournament named KACA, where he scored 51 runs in his first match. Due to his great performance in KACA, he got selected for the Irani trophy, Ranjit trophy, Indian under 19 team, Vijay Hazare trophy and currently IPL.
His consistent performance did not go unnoticed in his age group cricket circuit due to his technical proficiency, he earned a spot in the India U-19 team in 2024.

He made his first-class debut for Mumbai in the Irani Cup (2024-25). Then, in the Ranji Trophy, he scored an extraordinary 176 runs against Maharashtra.
In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he banged an electrifying innings of 181 runs off 117 balls against Nagaland. Through this score, he set a record as the youngest player to score 150 runs in Men’s List A cricket, at just 17 years and 168 days. He broke the record of Yashasvi Jaiswal, who held the record at 17 years and 291 days against Jharkhand in 2019.
In the 2025 IPL Mega Auction, he was not purchased by any of the teams. However, due to his extraordinary performances, the CSK franchise signed him as a replacement for the injured Ruturaj Gaikwad in April 2025. On 20 April 2025, he made his IPL debut against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium. He batted at the 3rd number where he scored 32 runs off 15 balls, including 4 fours and 2 sixes. He became the youngest CSK player to debut for CSK, at just 17 years and 278 days.
On 3rd May 2025, he played a good innings against Royal Challenger Bengaluru, where he scored 94 runs in 48 balls. His wicket was taken by Lungi Ngidi and caught by Krunal Pandya in 16.2 overs.
