Early Life & Educational Qualifications
He was born in Matho village and is prominently known as JTN, a short form of his name. He comes from a middle-class family. From a young age, he was very fond of how society works.
He completed his schooling at the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies, located in Leh. He then finished his BA degree from the University of Jammu. While he was pursuing his degree, he was actively involved in student politics. Hence, for a year, he served as the President of the All Ladakh Student Association (ALSA) in Jammu.
Career
As he was involved in student leadership, he served as the President of ALSA from 2011 to 2012. He then joined the BJP, where he worked as the Private Secretary to the then MP Thupstan Chhewang of Ladakh. In 2015, he contested the election of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh, where he emerged as the winner. After the resignation of the then CEC Dooray Motup, he became the 8th CEC of the council.
He then contested the Lok Sabha elections from the Ladakh parliamentary seat, the largest parliamentary seat geographically. On 23rd May 2019, he won the election, becoming a member of the 17th Lok Sabha. He secured 42,914 votes, winning by a margin of 10,930 votes.

Work During Tenure (2019–2024)
During his tenure, he supported the revocation of Article 370 and the reorganisation of Jammu and Kashmir. It led to the grant of Ladakh as a union territory. His speech was praised by the PM Narendra Modi and other leaders.

He pushed for the addition of the Bhoti language in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution. He improved the road connectivity in remote areas of Ladakh under Bharatmala and PMGSY to boost all-weather access.

He was very active in the development of border infrastructure and local security concerns in Parliament. After tensions with China in the Galwan Valley.

Controversies
Rejection of the BJP Ticket in 2024
The BJP Party announced Tashi Gyalson as its candidate for the Ladakh Lok Sabha seat, replacing him in April 2024. This announcement led to widespread dissatisfaction among the BJP supporters in Ladakh. He expressed that he had not been provided with a clear reason for a change, saying a serious disagreement with the decision of the party.
Viral Fake Statement
After his expulsion from the candidate list of the BJP, he said that supporting PM Narendra Modi was his Worst Decision. This statement widely circulated on the social media, but he quickly clarified that he had never made such remarks. He condemned the spread of untrue information.
Support of the Dalai Lama during Controversy
In 2023, a video went viral where Dalai Lama asked a child to “suck his tongue.” This instantly led to criticism. Namgyal came in the defence of the Dalai Lama by sentencing the allegation as baseless and malicious. He focused on the role of Dalai Lama in promoting the peace and conserving Tibetan culture. He said that these accusations had no place in the Buddhist ideologies.
