Mickey began his amateur boxing career as a form of self-defence due to his abusive stepfather. His stepfather was very rude to his mother. He learned self-defense at the Miami’s boys club. When he was 12 years old, he won his first match in the category of 52 kg.

At the 5th Street Gym in Miami, he continued his boxing career. Then, in 1969, he fought with former world Welterweight champion Luis Rodriguez. He suffered several concussions, which led to a temporary retirement. He has an amateur record with 27 wins and 3 losses during 1964 and 1973.

Early Acting Career

He made his acting debut in 1971 during his school play. Initially, he had an interest in boxing and never featured in any other school productions. After quitting boxing, he discovered acting through a friend and moved to New York to study under Walter Lott and Sandra Seacat. He got into the entry into “ The Actors Studio” with his first audition, which was praised by Elia Kazan. He received early film roles, including 1941, Fade to Black, and Body Heat.

His performance in “The Pope of Greenwich Village” film helped him to gain attention. His role in the erotic drama 9½ Weeks gave him the status of being sexually attractive. In 1987, he was featured in the “Never Let Me Down” album. The film “Homeboy” was his first written screenplay, which revolves around boxing. In 1991, he starred in the film Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man in the role of Harley Davidson.

In 1991, he decided to return to boxing, feeling disappointed with acting. He was undefeated in 8 matches with six wins and two draws. Moreover, he battled internationally, including Spain, Germany, and Japan. In his career, he inured several times with a number of injuries like broken toe, nose, ribs and tongue. Further, he also suffered from loss of short-term memory. So, he chose to quit boxing.

Then, in 2014, he returned to boxing at the age of 62 in an exhibition fight in Moscow. He won by TKO in round 2 against Elliot Seymour, even though the fight was allegedly fixed.
