Early Life
She was born in Lakewood, but she grew up in Rumson, New Jersey. During the 1990s, she grew up in a mainly white town. Later in the 2000s, she went through racial teasing and bullying, but these influenced her advocacy for Asian representation in media. She credits her success for her parents for being the biggest supporters. Even though, in her school plays, she did not get any major roles and saw people who looked like her on screen. Despite this, her family encouraged her to chase her dreams.

She finished her schooling at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School. In 2014, she was admitted to the Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University, where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in acting. During her time at Rutgers, she studied abroad in London, where she trained with Kevin Kittle. He believed in her talent and helped her to develop her skills. At Shakespeare Globe Theatre, she performed in the production of “The Two Gentlemen of Verona.”
Career
After graduation, she received her first stage role as Nina in Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, a comedy play. One of her first big moments came with the New York premiere of the play named “The Wolves.” She was praised for her performance by the audience.
