Dilip Ghosh is a popular Indian politician who hails from West Bengal. He was the Member of Parliament from Medinipur Constituency in Lok Shabha. Additionally, he was also one of the national vice presidents of BJP (2021-2023) and was the 9th president of the BJP’s West Bengal Unit.
He was born on 1 August 1964 in Kuliana village, Medinipur, West Bengal. Currently, he is associated with the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP).

Early Life
He was born and brought up in Kuliana, a small village near Gopiballavpur, Medinipur District. He has had a deep connection with his roots since childhood.

Dilip Ghosh Political Career
He began his political career as a “Volunteer” of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in 1984. From 1999 to 2007, he was in charge of RSS in Andaman and Nicobar Island. During this tenure, he worked as an RSS chief K.S. Sudarshan’s assistant. He joined the BJP party and became the general secretary of the West Bengal unit in 2014. After that, in 2015, he was appointed president of the BJP in West Bengal state.
In 2016, he made his electoral journey where he contested the West Bengal legislative assembly from Kharagpur Sadar. Happily, he won the Kharagpur Sadar constituency of district Paschim Medinipur. He defeated Gyan Singh Sohanpal who was the candidate of the Indian National Congress. Gyan Singh had won this constituency consecutively seven times from 1982 to 2011.

In 2019, Under his leadership, the Bhartiya Janta party won the Lok Sabha election in West Bengal without any major political alliance. He won 18 Lok Sabha seats out of the 42 constituencies in West Bengal. He won the Medinipur Lok Sabha constituency in the 2019 elections by a huge margin of 88,952 votes. Ghosh defeated Manas Bhunia, and was the candidate of Trinamool Congress.
In 2020, he again became the President of West Bengal BJP.
In 2024, he lost the Lok Shabha Seat of Bardhaman- Durgapur in West Bengal to Kirti Azad, a candidate of Trinamool Congress. He was defeated by her with the margin of 1,37,981 votes.
Controversies
He was criticised when he passed a statement about the chief minister of West Bengal, Mamta Banerjee, by saying that his party could have dragged her by the hair. When he passed this statement, she was in New Delhi.

The police of West Bengal arrested him over his derogatory comments against the chief minister of West Bengal, Mamta Banerjee on 28 March 2024. He said that
“When she goes to Goa, she becomes the daughter of Goa- when she goes to Tripura she becomes the daughter of Tripura: decide who is your father that is not right.”

He was admitted to a private hospital due to severe back pain on 22 January 2018.
He defeated his nearest rival Gyan Singh Sohanpal in the West Bengal assembly election, in 2016.
In 2020, he claimed that drinking cow urine can cure coronavirus. This statement was heavily criticised by the ruling party Trinamool Congress.
In January 2020, a woman who carried an anti-CAA poster was abused by his partyman. Later, when Dilip spoke to newsmen, he justified that his party member did the right thing. He also said that she should be thankful that she was only abused, but nothing else was done to her. Later, police registered a sexual harassment case against Ghosh for his comments.
